Serero staying put

Cape Town - Thulani Serero has put pen to paper with current club Ajax Amsterdam in a deal that will keep the South African in the famous red and white strip until 2017. 

The former Ajax Cape Town player is fast becoming a star in the Eredivisie and Ajax have moved swiftly to ensure one of their stars remain at the club.

KickOff.com have confirmed that the South African midfielder has extended his current deal with Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam.  

Serero had a stellar season in the Netherlands where he put in some fine performances, most notably when opening the scoring in Ajax's famous win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

Serero, who work on the pitch saw him become a first team regular, scored four other goals in his 40 appearances for Ajax.

Ajax coach and former Dutch national team star Frank De Boer had has only kind words for his player. He noted Serero's vast improvement in the two years under his mentorship. 

De Boer highlighted Serero's ability to set about regaining possession for the team which he said set the tempo for the entire side to follow.

Serero is following in the footsteps of another South African midfield legend, Steven Pienaar, who himself spent a number of seasons with the Dutch side.

Thulani Serero seems to have his footballing career at his feet and will be hoping for an even bigger season where Ajax will look to add a record fifth league title to their name while also competiting with Europe's elite in the Champions League.

Serero will also be hoping to kick on in national team colours where he has gained 13 caps but is yet to score for Bafana Bafana.
