Roma midfielder out for a month

Roma — Roma and Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi will likely be out for a month due to a first-degree tear of his left calf muscle.

Medical tests on Tuesday revealed the extent of the problem after De Rossi was injured late in a 2-0 win over Cagliari at the weekend.

De Rossi will likely miss Serie A matches against Parma, Hellas Verona and Juventus plus next week's Champions League game at Manchester City. He could also sit out Italy's European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Malta on Oct. 10 and 13, respectively.

Roma has won its opening four matches of the season but has a growing list of injured players, with Juan Iturbe, Davide Astori, Leandro Castan, Kevin Strootman, Federico Balzaretti and Marco Borriello all out of action.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
