Nigeria confirm Oliseh as new coach

Abuja - The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed the appointment of former midfielder and captain Sunday Oliseh as the coach of the national team.

Oliseh takes over from another former captain, Stephen Keshi, who was fired this month for breaching his contract by applying to be Ivory Coast coach.

The NFF says Oliseh would be presented later Wednesday at the National Stadium in Abuja. He flew into Nigeria on Tuesday and met with NFF officials, after which the executive committee approved his appointment. The NFF didn't give contract details.

Oliseh played for Nigeria from 1993-2002, winning the African Cup of Nations in 1994 and Olympic gold in 1996.

NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi says "it is imperative that Oliseh starts work immediately" with 2017 African Cup qualifying resuming in early September.
