Neuer tops FIFA shortlist

Berlin - Germany's World Cup winner Manuel Neuer was Monday shortlisted for the goalkeeper position in the FIFA world team of the year for 2014.

Neuer, who also won the Bundesliga and German Cup double with Bayern Munich in addition to the World Cup, is listed alongside Claudio Bravo (Chile/Barcelona), Thibaut Courtois (Belgium/Chelsea), Iker Casillas (Spain/Real Madrid) and Gianluigi Buffon (Italy/Juventus).

The positions on the team are decided by the votes of professional players all over the world through the FIFPro players union and announced at the FIFA gala in Zurich on January 12, 2015.

Shortlists for defenders, midfielders and forwards will be published in the coming days.

Neuer, who was included in the 2013 team of the year, is also a candidate to be named FIFA World Player of the Year.
