Mubele motivated by CAF award

Cape Town - DR Congo striker Firmin Mubele has admitted that a heavy weight lies on his shoulders at the 2015 Africa Cup to justify his 2014 CAF African Based Player award win.

The AS Vita star walked away with the award last Thursday at the 2014 CAF Gala in Lagos.

Mubele scored six goals for AS Vita in Africa last year to help propel the Kinshasa club to the final of the 2014 CAF Champions League where they finished runners up to Entente Setif of Algeria

He also scored one goal for his country in the 2015 Africa Cup qualifiers in DR Congo's 2-0 away win over Sierra Leone.

“I am very moved to have won this award. I cannot explain how happy I am," Mubele told Radio Okapi.

"This award comes with a heavy responsibility and I need to work hard this week to be able to show the world at the Afcon that I deserved it."

This will be the 20-year-old striker second international continental outing with DR Congo after debuting at the 2014 CAF African Nations Championship in South Africa where he scored two goals en route to the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Mubele and his teammates will kick off their Africa Cup campaign on January 18 when DR Congo face Zambia in a Group B opener in Ebebiyin.
