Madrid - Andres Iniesta has withdrawn from Spain's squad ahead of their upcoming friendly against France and their first 2016 European Championship qualifier.
The Spanish national team says Iniesta will miss Thursday's friendly in Paris and its qualifier against Macedonia on September 8.
Iniesta missed Barcelona's 1-0 win at Villarreal on Sunday after feeling pain in his left knee.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has decided not to replace the midfielder, leaving him with a 22-player squad.
Del Bosque has a number of options in midfield with Jorge "Koke" Resurreccion, Cesc Fabregas, Santi Cazorla and debutante Raul Garcia all available.
