Fan in critical condition after attack

Wolverhampton - West Midlands Police says a football supporter is in critical condition after being attacked in the street following Saturday's second-tier match between Watford and host Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In a statement released Sunday, police said: "Detectives have launched an investigation after a Hertfordshire man received life-threatening injuries in an unprovoked assault in Wolverhampton yesterday."

Police said the 44-year-old Watford fan was on his way from Wolves' Molineux stadium to Wolverhampton train station when he was assaulted and suffered a serious head injury.

The incident followed a 2-2 draw between the teams in the Championship division.

Wolves expressed its "disgust" at the attack and urged any fans with information to contact the police.
