Cape Town - Jerome Champagne, the only declared candidate for the FIFA presidency says he won't step aside for Sepp Blatter.
Blatter is expected to confirm that he will be seeking a fifth term as president of FIFA. This announcement is expected before the Soccer World Cup kicks off.
In an interview with The Associated Press, former FIFA executive Jerome Champagne wouldn't accept that attempting to unseat Blatter, his former boss, was a lost cause.
Champagne said "an election is an election," adding that "we have seen a lot of underdogs and outsiders also sometimes winning."
Champagne remains quietly confident he will be able to prevail in the elections but refused to admit this outright. The Frenchman said "don't ask me to tell you now what will be the end result. I leave that to the pundits and I leave that to the journalist."
In 2011, Blatter was re-elected as the only candidate and Champagne is keen on changing this. He believes that FIFA needs more than one candidate and different points of view.
