Belgium edge Socceroos

Liege- World Cup quarter-finalists Belgium saw off Australia 2-0 in an international friendly on Thursday with the goals in either half coming from Dries Mertens and Axel Witsel.

Napoli forward Mertens struck in the 18th minute, with Zenit St Petersburg's Witsel doubling up with a deft half-volley with under quarter of an hour remaining.

Belgium normally had a Euro 2016 qualifier date in Israel next Tuesday, but due to the security situation in the region the match has been postponed until March 31 next year.
