Johannesburg - South African Football Association chief executive Leslie Sedibe quit because of bad blood, reports the Sowetan.
The 12-month marriage between SAFA and its chief executive Leslie Sedibe ended acrimoniously on Tuesday following allegations of a power struggle among the federation's top brass.
A gatvol Sedibe tendered his resignation on Tuesday morning after complaining about SAFA's failure to protect him after reports that some senior members were after his position.
"There have been people who talked bad things about me and the environment was no longer conducive for me to work there," said Sedibe yesterday.
"The environment at SAFA made it difficult for me to continue serving the federation to the best of my ability."
Sowetan revealed that Sedibe is unhappy that SAFA failed to act swiftly after certain senior Football Transformation Forum (FTF) leaders continuously bad-mouthed him.
FTF is the body that the current SAFA leadership used to campaign for the elections that saw Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan withdraw from contesting the position of president. leading to Kirsten Nematandani being elected unopposed as president.
Some FTF leaders have been circulating strongly worded e-mails describing Sedibe as a bad SAFA administrator. Sedibe hit back, saying he was aware that a certain FTF leader, whose name is known to Sowetan, was behind the smear campaign to embarrass him.
