Johannesburg - Former Bafana Bafana star Thabang Lebese is recovering in the Helen Joseph Hospital after he was admitted for an undisclosed illness, reports the Sowetan.

Lebese was admitted to the hospital on Saturday and is believed to be making steady progress. According to his mother, Meisie, Lebese was in a bad condition when he was admitted but is now showing signs of progress.

"He was admitted on Saturday but I'm happy he is making progress, She said.

"He could not speak when he was admitted. I expect him to be released soon."

The hospital has also confirmed that Lebese, who also played for Orlando Pirates and Ria Stars, is a patient.

But spokeswoman Lovey Mogapi would not reveal the nature of Lebese's illness, nor his progress.

"It is true that Lebese has been admitted to the hospital but unfortunately I'm not in a position to comment on his condition," she said.

Lebese spent years at Chiefs, helping the Soweto Glamour Boys to win a lot of trophies.

Former teammates Isaac "Shakes" Kungoane, Pollen "Trompies" Ndlanya and Mark Williams paid him a visit on Thursday.

According to Kungoane, with whom Lebese formed a deadly partnership during their playing days, the former midfield player is recovering well.

"He was very happy to see us. We spent some time with him. He was in high spirits and very happy to see the three of us.

"We wish him a speedy recovery," Kungoane said.

Don't worry bafanas you are not the only one and your case is not unique. There are six millions in Mzansi with the same problem and there are a lot of idiots spitting bile on this forum having the same problem. Just take your treatment and you'll be okay. The last time I saw you at Paul Kruger square selling insurance policies trying to make a living. At was a shame but at least you were trying to make a honest living unlike bo Lebo Morula who is in jail now for cash-heist.

When they were playing they got peanuts compared to what players get now, but I guess thats no excuse cause he should have thought of the future as footbal is a very short career..

hospital plans are not that expensive, better that nothing and there are other providers than rip off discovery

Mr.Ian you probably know that most footballers all over the world are not well educated because of the demand of the sport, so the excuse here would probably be that he did not know of the options he had, I know you are probably going to ask whether or not they had financial advisors the answer is yes..but then again it comes down to ignorance..

Since when was Lebese a Bafana star? He was just an ill mannered bloke who happened to be well paid and wasted his fortune. Chin up old chum.
