FA mounts war on FIFA

2010-12-06 12:15

Cape Town - England's football bosses are organising a worldwide mutiny against FIFA over the Soccer World Cup bid fiasco, reports The Sun.

The FA's Alex Horne is rallying other nations furious at the double-dealing that handed the 2018 contest to Russia - even though FIFA delegates assured England ambassadors David Beckham, Prince William and PM David Cameron that they backed our bid.

An FA source said: "Alex Horne is as unhappy as everyone else and is rallying support for reform from across the globe.

"He'll start by calling other failed bidders like America, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Holland then branch out.

"We want to get so much support for change that FIFA have to listen."

England wasted £15m on advertising, video spectaculars - and sending celebrity ambassadors abroad to beg for votes.

FA general secretary Horne will call for a spending limit on bids in future and earlier elimination rounds to stop a repeat of last week's unseemly last-minute grovelling for votes in Zurich.

He said on Sunday: "I think the process could have sensible reform. For nine bidders to go all the way to Zurich may not be strictly necessary.

"It is difficult in the aftermath of last week to trust some individuals."

At least seven FIFA delegates are said to have pledged support for England. But we got just two of the possible 22 votes - and neither was from one of the seven.

England 2018 chief executive Andy Anson accused FIFA fatcats of revelling in a job that sees them wooed by world leaders and royalty.

He said: "They are incredibly protective of this cushy nice life."

Oh please stop this! Nothing beats the KGB, Moscow and Vodka!

      scott - 2010-12-06 13:28

WELL SAID DUDE. POUR THE VODKA HAHA. england are pathetic losers and tossers in general. they think earth revolves around them.

      StaalBurgher - 2010-12-06 17:35

@Johnny, Actually Afrikaners fought long and hard until after the British had actually burnt everything to a cinder and committed genocide on their women and children. Oh, then they still fought for their nation but the world then boycotted them. Now, after all that, you lot still want to try and discriminate against them even after they have lost all political power. So any state this country is in we can thank our Western cousins for, especially the English. As for the topic at hand; I am with the Brits on this one. Can anyone pretend we have not all bemoaned the duplicity, greed and lack of common sense from FIFA with the recent SA WC? A change to the structure is long over due.

      NOFX1609 - 2010-12-07 10:44

hey scott if you spent all that money because you were assured you'd get the votes and you didn't, you'd be pretty pissed too. lets not forget about our 2006 world cup bid and how pissed we were

  • Mario - 2010-12-06 12:25

What do you expect of FIFA bosses. They are play 'god' and rule Football with an iron fist. New policies and voting principles must be introduced.

      Will99 - 2010-12-06 12:33

It's Fifa! Russia can pay large amounts of bribe money, were as the english couldn't.

  • nonduplume - 2010-12-06 12:30

FIFA is one of the most corrupt companies in the world and it is about time that the averice and greed that runs this operation is shut down

  • GT - 2010-12-06 12:33

People are SOOOOOO STUPID. Why would FIFA want to take the world cup that has all the stadiums, all the airports, all the public transport? How will they ever get a bribe/ kickback/ commission? Russia and Qatar will be spending $30 billion plus in the next 12 years. The UK is so naive it is barely believable. That and Russia and Qatar have no free media to investigate the dirty

      eentyd - 2010-12-07 11:01

So true!!! They are as bad as the South African Government.

  • Pierewiet - 2010-12-06 12:35

The last two paragraphs sum up what everybody knows about FIFA. They couldn't care less how many millions are wasted in this ridiculous bidding system as long as the majority of those millions are canalised towards them!

  • Sandile - 2010-12-06 12:43

The English have once again shown us what sore losers they are. Fair or not its happened! Its amazing how they always harp on about how they were robbed in rugby, soccer, cricket or life. So for my naive English friends here free advice; "Life is not fair and then you die"

      Johnny - 2010-12-06 15:10

If you invite countries to put together a time consuming and costly bid and tell them that adjudication will be on merit, then that is how it should be. The English are principled and stand up for their rights, that's why most things over there work. As to the new SA under a black government-well lets not go there ! "Life is not fair and then you die" Wow thanks for those profound words of wisdom - I don't think any of us have heard that before !

  • FerretGee - 2010-12-06 12:44

simple really, get rid of Sepp Blatter first!

      NOFX1609 - 2010-12-07 10:46

The world cup would not have been in SA had it not been for him so don't be too harsh

  • Mike - 2010-12-06 12:53

Why did the English not act this way when SA lost the bid to host the 2006 games? Plonkas!!!!!!! there were under handed deals then already.

      StaalBurgher - 2010-12-06 17:36

I think their point is that they were promised votes which weren't delivered.

      John Seloa - 2010-12-07 09:13

      gpmoeketsane - 2010-12-07 10:29

Spot on Mike. Why isit dat now cz England lost, FIFA has to be investigated? n yet dey were der wen Charlse Dempsey did da same to SA. Duz it mean now da world has to stop for them? They must just get over it. Infact dey were part of sum pple who had little hope about SA hosting da 2010 SWC.

  • bill - 2010-12-06 12:55

England should withdraw together with the other countries that were ignored and start a rival football body. Lets see what bribes Blatter would get from his rag tag 3rd world members

      gpmoeketsane - 2010-12-07 10:32

Diz must be da most stupid comment I hv heard so far. Wat happens if doze countries hav 2 contest each to hold deir SWC? Da losers r going to open another football body? FIFA is governed by a constitution, if der is n error it can be amended n dat's it. Wat if England has still lost bt Spain won, wat den?

  • Gorilla - 2010-12-06 13:02

I think the SA people labeling the poms as sore losers should cast their minds back a few years when SA was stitched up by a bit of double dealing and votes being 'sold out' in the SWC bid as well as the olympic bid. Also listen to the 'blame the ref' noises whenever they lose a game of rubgy. England have good reason to feel done out of a great bid. They were sold out.

      AGENT - 2010-12-06 13:22

      blady Agent !!!

      Jaco - 2010-12-06 14:19

Yes, we were sore, Gorilla - could anybody expect anything else? But the Poms are just pushing the whinge-needle to new dizzying heights this year. Did we try to stage some mutiny bullsh**? No comparison.

  • Miguel - 2010-12-06 13:04

England you are arrogant, you had a fat lot to say about South Africa and its people. you think that you live in the best county in the world and that you are the best in whatever you do. In a nutshell, you do not respect other countries and its cultures. I do understand that Fifa is corrupt but I also do understand that they want to grow football so that the fat cats of Fifa cant enrich themselves even more. This is the reason it went to Russia and that other eastern country that I dont really know about. In my oppinion I do not see England getting the world cup in my lifetime. England forget about the world cup...lets move on and lets enjoy the best league in the world..THE PREMIER LEAGUE. Thank you England for giving that to us...It has made soccer so much more sexy. England let Fifa stuff that world cup where the sun dont shine...CHEERS

      scott - 2010-12-06 13:29

i agree mate but they rely on foreign players, coaches and owners to make that league awesome.

      Jaco - 2010-12-06 14:22

How to go from knocking England to praising them in one post.

  • ehadam - 2010-12-06 13:04

Sore losers... That's for portraying SA in a bad light before the 2010WC

  • Clarissa - 2010-12-06 13:10

      AGENT - 2010-12-06 13:24

Whoooooo Hooooooo Yeaaaaaa.... Mother Russia !!!!

  • Banker - 2010-12-06 13:12

Fifa, Russian Mafia, KGB what the difference? None, they are all corrupt. I'd love to see Sepp Blatter and the rest of his Fifa soccer conies bank balances (including the ones hidden behind Swiss secrecy). Fifa still owes money to all the SA cities that hosted the 2010 World Cup and to German cities that hosted the 2006 World Cup.

  • mmogadube - 2010-12-06 13:28

Its so sad!!! When people loose, they saddenly see all the negatives about the organisation. We lost to Germany in 2006 nothing mattered as we knew our day will come. Britain (UK) PLEASE SHUT-UP and let it be please!!!!!

  • FerretGee - 2010-12-06 13:33

England had the SWC in 1966, America had it in 1994 so why are they bleating that they were hard done by? Other countries deserve the chance to host the event even if it is all a smoke screen for Sepps decisions. I am fully convinced that Sepp chooses whom he wants to host and then mentions it over and over to the committee so they will "vote" for the country he wants!

  • yeldarb - 2010-12-06 13:37

fro those of you who dont like the idea of Russia getting the world cup. Do you all know this afrikaans words "naat gatte" Come people was South Africa supposed to get a world up. Give Russia a chance afterall its about promoting Soccer. And as for England you have already had a world cup. Bunch of cry babies. Sniff sniff. get over it dammit

  • colin - 2010-12-06 13:55

Hence the saying: "F...KING WINGING POM!!".

  • D-Man - 2010-12-06 14:00

I think the gilded hand of a god intervened to turn the minds of the promise makers.

  • ME - 2010-12-06 14:07

Why is it that if England does not win, then it has to be corruption. Who said England have a god given right to host the World Cup. Bidding for the world cup is not about who is more ready at the time of the bid. Quite clearly FIFA- correctly so- will take the games to new areas as long as the bid is commercially sound and the infrastructure will be ready. Please let us start using common sense!!!!!!. As for England, they were malicious against us hosting the world cup- so on a subjective note: SERVES THEM RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!

      green_goblin - 2010-12-07 09:17

You seriously cannot be that thick.."Why is it that if England does not win, then it has to be corruption" well since they investigated and found it to be so. Hence the reason why three of the FIFA delegation were found guilty.. umm if you are going to try and raise a comment or argument maybe do so with the facts.

      John Seloa - 2010-12-07 09:55

green_goblin, you just spoke a lot of thick rubbish. FIFA and the hosting of the WC belongs to everyone. The English, with their arrogance, and the league that is dominated by foregn players, foreign managers and foreign owners can go to hell. When they lost in the SWC 2010 they blamed the goal line tech and FIFA corruption, and here they come again. Thick skulls; big ears; arrogant bastards!!!!

  • Shino - 2010-12-06 14:23

FIFA should respond by making an example of England. Completely disqualify them from the next couple of voting line-ups -- They can be a contending nation again in 2034.

      green_goblin - 2010-12-07 09:15

Shino..... England are out of the next couple (2) voting line ups since the draw was done for the next couple (2) of world cups after Brazil.

  • sirjamac - 2010-12-06 14:25

Only the English can be that stupid. How do you expect anyone to vote for you, if you call those same people cheats that except bribes (one day before the voting - BBC Panorama). For goodness sake, deals are not made in boardrooms, they were concluded in pubs, resorts, and with gifts long before the anouncement. The ROI on a few million spent on gifts could have earned billions for England.

      Johnny - 2010-12-06 16:03

Absolutely ! and if they would only have spent a few million in gifts for some of the players in the teams that they had played against in the last world cup, they could probably have won ! How stupid are these Poms !? Do it the SA way that's what I say - thieve, steal, lie and bribe - if you can't buy it then its not worth having. Hey boet someone like you is going to go places in the new SA - but remember if you don,t have a tan, work on it - its a prerequisite!

      green_goblin - 2010-12-07 09:13

So Sirjamac, you are saying that it was wrong for the English media to point out how corrupt and farcicle FIFA actually are? I agree the timing was totally wrong but unfortunately the British world cup bid committee do not have control over the british media.

  • Whistleblower - 2010-12-06 14:28

If the FA really wanted to irk FIFA, then just introduce goal-line technology without consulting FIFA. That will get their attention, remember Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal at the World Cup.

  • Richie - 2010-12-06 14:46

FIFA is a perfect example of what happens when a group/individual/etc have no-body to account to. It's exactly what happening in South Africa... you have the ANC controlling/manipulating the brain-dead masses to the point where they have limitless power, barring the constitution which they defy every opportunity they get. The similarity is astounding. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and exponentially more so in Africa ask those FIFA (African) officials England exposed. FIFA should have a separate/ independent council or body to answer to.

  • ian.jacobsohn - 2010-12-06 15:03

These 'pommies' need to get over themselves. There is a world outside of Europe and the States. Although I would admit that FIFA is probably one of the most corrupt organisations out there, the first world need to face the facts, they won't be first world forever. There is a new drive towards acknowledging so called 3rd world countries who, in the past, would not have seen the light of day or have had the opportunity to be considered. I say good for you FIFA. make the 2026 world cup in another 3rd world country - just to prove a point. Germany did exactly the same when SA got the bid - they got over it. Besides with so many uneducated pommie yobs and soccer holigans, why would they want to give the bid to England.

      Johnny - 2010-12-06 15:42

You are missing the point. If FIFA states that adjudication is on the basis of merit, then that is how it should be. It was universally acknowledged that the UK had one of the strongest bids and yet they only got two votes, that immediately implies that there is a hidden agenda. If the policy of FIFA is to spread it around and give everyone a chance then say so - do not waste the time and money of countries who have no chance no matter how good their bid.

      green_goblin - 2010-12-07 09:11

I don't understand what you mean by germany got over it when SA won the bid. germany hosted the world cup in 2006 and therefore were not eligible to bid for 2010? England have also cleaned up the act with soccer hooliganism and have one of the best systems in controlling this, they do have some idiots still but doesn't every country.

  • grocer - 2010-12-06 15:52

FIFA is a drug cartel. The biggest drug in the world(football) and they run the scene. Iknow they must grow the game(esp in the east and m-east), but the corruption is truly sickening. It really is no different to all the big corporations. They ALL do it. It's capitalism as it functions all day long, ALL over the world!! Nothing we can do about it. I say we're all "victims of the inhouse drive-by. They say jump, we say how high" (R.A.T.M!!)

  • Sailor - 2010-12-06 16:09

It is obviously a natural disaster if the Brits lose out on anything. But then, i am not sure whether to take the Sun seriously as it is known to butter the truth a little bit. Others need to have a chance too. Well done President Blatter.

  • bluejay - 2010-12-06 16:31

have you heard about karma old johnny boy?the british media demonised the fifa 2010 wc in south africa and at the end of the day fifa screwed your country and media brilliantly!hats of to blatter for masterminding total humilliation of england!hahahahahahaha.the day england respect other countries then we will respect you chaps.

  • Tebogo Les - 2010-12-06 17:04

So what? England you think you are the best. Russia will say they have spend £30m then what. Stop that nonsense. I think its time for you learn to accept. Try next time.

  • Tebogo Les - 2010-12-06 17:06

Hey stop that nonsense of yours, you must learn to accept the results. What if Russia says they have spend £30m for the bid then what? Please world has changed. You no longer the best but the w.....e

  • Base - 2010-12-07 08:41

England wait your turn,SA gonna get it again. No one likes the English,Americans and Aussies anymore. Please FIFA give it to them in 3010 ,when i'm dead. The tides are shifting we dont need you anymore.Viva Bricks!!!!!!!

  • cnkuna - 2010-12-07 09:13

BBC Insulted and humiliated the very same people that were ought to vote for them, their football fans are more hooligans thaan any other Nation, and that is pay back for Insulting South African Citizens prior the World Cup. Arrogant Fools

  • Leepile - 2010-12-07 09:21

i find it said that England loses the bid and somehow us "braindead masses" are dragged into it. Why cant they examine the conduct of their media in the days leading to the vote? Anyways perhaps they will learn a thing or two from the South African organisers who didnt throw the baby out with the bath water instead doubled their efforts and left nothing to chance hence we got the 2010 bid. Regardless, it is unfortunate that when people have run out of excuses for their misfortunes they have to drag us black folks into this. Last time i checked Sepp Blatter was white and i have heard nothing to suggest that he's a member of the ANC.Leave us out of this.

  • Russ - 2010-12-07 09:45

The english are a bunch of sore losers. Stop crying because daddy Sepp didn't give you your own way. I am actully happy england didn't get the cup as that is payback for what those bloody agents newspapers said about our WC saying that there will be lions running in the street and there will be blacks rnning in the street with machetes. I hope you only get the WC in two thousand and voetsak.

      lungimsp - 2010-12-07 10:50

Couldnt agree more, they deserve what they got

  • jonosaw - 2010-12-07 10:30

I'm so happy that the POMS did not get the Soccer World Cup. I happen to have worked with a whole bunch of them here in South Korea and they are just plain arrogant and hard headed! You portrayed South Africa in a bad light before the 2010 World Cup and now you have sour grapes and a bunch of hooligans in the stands who will not see the World Cup there. You don't hear Japan or South Korea moaning so give it up! Bring on the Vodka!

  • Tsundzuka - 2010-12-07 10:51

Thats always the case wit the English, its always sumthin wrong wit the system wen thins dn't go their way. They made the biggst noise about the bal in soccer worldcup in south africa wen they wer struggling 2 win, all of a sudden the worldcup ws a poorly organised affair

  • Nico Koegelenberg - 2010-12-07 13:14

Wake up and smell the roses! Didn't you know such is life.... We in South Africa live with it everyday, why should it be any different elsewhere. The only difference, maybe, is the amounts of money that change hands.
