Cape Town - Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has backed play-maker Henrikh Mkhitaryan to make a big statement in the Premier League this season.

Ibrahimovic, who is still recovering from a knee injury picked up last season, signed a new one-year deal with the Red Devils this week and believes Mkhitaryan is looking good this campaign.

The 28-year-old Armenian has already provided the United strikers with four assists in two Premier League games, both of which they won 4-0, and Ibrahimovic reckons he can keep going.

"I think this season will be the season of Mkhitaryan," the Swede told ESPN.

"Last season he struggled a little bit in the beginning, then he came up when he started to play and this season he has opened the season fantastic.

"People underestimate him because he doesn't have the name like the other ones in the world, it could be because he comes from a small country like he comes from but this year he will get the credit he deserves and the quality that he is. My bet is on Mkhitaryan.

United will be aiming to make it three wins out of three games played when they next welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Kick off is at 18:30.
