Yoshida: Saints need more consistency

Cape Town - Southampton defender Maya Yoshida wants the Saints to continue performing the way they did against Manchester United on Saturday when they take on smaller teams.

Mauricio Pellegrino's men were edged out 1-0 by the Red Devils at St. Mary's, but they put in a solid performance on the day and Yoshida believes it stands them in good stead going forward.

The Saints will travel to Stoke City on Saturday for their next Premier League fixture, and Yoshida has urged his teammates to maintain the intensity they showed against United.

“That is kind of the difference between Southampton and Manchester United but if we can play like this against teams in the top, hopefully we can step up against the teams in the middle,” he said, according to the Daily Echo.

“We have to be consistent more, not sometimes win, sometimes lose. If we continue to play like this we can have more chances.

“There is nothing much different between the top teams - if we want to step up more, we have to be better, more consistent.

“I believe we can do it.”
