Wright blasts Ozil after Facebook post

Cape Town - Arsenal legend Ian Wright has blasted midfielder Mesut Ozil after the German took to Facebook to lash out at former players for criticising the team.

Wright - who is Arsenal's second-highest goalscorer - labelled the German's Facebook post in which he called for former Gunners' stars to 'stop talking and start supporting the club' as laughable.

The former England international then challenged Ozil to sign a new contract to show his commitment to the club and start performing on the pitch.

“Sign a contract if you feel that strongly about people criticising the team - because you’re somebody who is integral to Arsenal’s success," Wright wrote in his column in The Sun.

“You’re not signing a deal and you’re probably going to continue to hide behind the fact (Alexis) Sanchez is the one that everybody’s going to say, ‘Is he going to go?’.

“A player that is not actually performing on the pitch is coming out, calling people out - and he’s not signing a contract.

“It’s laughable. When they start playing, we’ll stop criticising. Ozil has been talking a lot - but what exactly is he doing? Sign a new contract and show how much you care about Arsenal.”
