Wright angered by Arsenal fans

Cape Town - Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been left angered by fans who displayed a banner calling for Arsene Wenger's resignation during Tuesday night's 4-0 win over Hull City in the FA Cup.

Arsenal cruised into the quarter-finals, but the result was overshadowed by certain Arsenal fans who held up a banner that read: "Arsene, thanks for the memories, but it's time to say goodbye."

Wenger has found himself under extreme pressure, especially after defeats in the league to Manchester United and Swansea City left them eight points behind league leaders Leicester City.

"I can understand the frustration in a season where we're looking at Leicester top of the league, Chelsea not with it and Man City getting themselves going again." Wright told BT Sport.

"Of course they want to win the league, if it was that easy they would do it.

"Arsene Wenger is doing the best he can but sometimes you have to look at the players and the way they have performed. You can't keep caning the manager like that.

"They walk over there after winning 4-0, people were saying if they lose the season's over, but they've won it comfortably. To see that sign is annoying.

"They are disappointed about the Manchester United and Swansea results. If they bring that banner out with two games to go when Arsenal are out of the FA Cup and nowhere near in the Premier League then you can say they have every right to be upset.

"But to bring it out after winning 4-0 with the week they have had? I think it is a bit harsh."

Arsenal will be looking to get back to winning ways when they entertain Watford in their FA Cup quarter-final clash at the Emirates on Sunday.
