Wenger reveals Wilshere close to comeback

Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that midfielder Jack Wilshere is progressing well in training and getting close to his best once again.

The 25-year-old's career has been hamstrung by injuries. He has been sidelined for a month or more on 10 separate occasions since 2011. The worst of which was a hairline crack in his leg that kept him out for 247 days from August 2015 to April 2016.

The Englishman's struggles for fitness and form saw him loaned out to Bournemouth last season, but he picked up another serious injury while at the Cherries, keeping him out of contention for 112 days.

However, Wenger insists he has seen positives during recent training sessions which suggest that Wilshere could soon be back to his best.

"You have certainly seen the video of him when we played against Barcelona - his game is about that," the Frenchman said according to Four Four Two, referring to the clash with Barca in the 2011 Champions League last-16 when Wilshere dictated play from midfield.

"He needs a little burst to get away from people because he can move the game forward and, if you can move the game forward, you need your legs to get you out of pressure.

"That will come back [for him] - it is coming back in training. He is very hungry and sharp. He is not completely at his best, but he is getting there. He enjoys being back and competing for his place and what I see in training is positive."
