Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged close-season signing Lucas Perez to focus on reaching his potential.
Perez needs to seize his opportunities and become a great player for the club, Wenger suggested.
The French tactician is eager to see the 28-year-old take his opportunity when he gets it.
"He did extremely well against Ludogorets (a 6-0 win in the Champions League) because he came on and gave two great goals," Wenger said.
"He was a bit like the rest of the team against Middlesbrough (a 0-0 draw in the Premier League), in that he could not have as big an impact because the whole team was not functioning as well.
"I believe he has the potential to be a great player for us. In training he continues to show he has the potential to play, he now has to transfer that into the games.
"The more he does that - against Reading (in the Football League Cup) he will have an opportunity - the more we will be tempted to say: 'Let's do it'," he concluded.
The Spanish forward has appeared in three Premier League games since signing from Deportivo La Coruna for a reported fee of £17 million.
