Cape Town - Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is confident he will eventually get back to his best as he begins to recover from two surgeries to a broken ankle.

The 27-year-old is in for a lengthy rehabilitation for an injury sustained during Arsenal's goalless Europa League draw with Sporting Lisbon.

He had been on a good run of form, scoring five goals in 16 appearances in all competitions this season.

A statement from the Gunners on Monday read: "Further to sustaining an injury last Thursday against Sporting CP, Danny has undergone a second planned operation on his right ankle.

"Both procedures went well, without complications. Danny will now recuperate and start his rehabilitation. It's too early to say how long this will take.

"Everyone at the club will now be providing Danny with the best possible treatment and support in order to make him fit again as soon as possible."

And Welbeck Tweeted: "Back home... Thanks for all the love and support. No doubt I will be back stronger than ever before. Recovery grind starts now."
