Veltman flattered by West Ham link

Cape Town - Ajax Amsterdam right-back Joel Veltman believes his form last season has put him firmly in the shop window amid links with West Ham United.

The Dutchman has now entered the final year of his contract with the Amsterdam outfit and does not want to pen a renewal as he considers a new challenge.

"I am open to a transfer," Veltman told De Telegraaf from Ajax‘s pre-season training camp in Austria.

"I am now 27, I have a one year left on my contract and this is a good moment in itself.

"But it’s still in a bit of flux. There is certainly some interest, but not really concrete yet."

Veltman was seriously injured against VVV-Venlo in April last year and lost his place in the right-back slot to Noussair Mazraoui.

But he recovered well and started in both legs of Ajax‘s Champions League quarter-final and semi-final clashes against Juventus and Tottenham.

He was linked to West Ham United on Friday in the Daily Mail and the defender appears ready to test himself at Premier League level.

"My matches in the Champions League last season have been a good calling card," he added.

"I showed that after my injury I can take that level again. I am in top shape and have never been as strong as now. Fortunately, I was able to show that in those competitions."
