Van de Beek leaves option open for Manchester United transfer

Donny van de Beek appears to have left the door open for a move to Manchester United in the off-season after stating that he hasn't said yes to any club.

Ajax midfielder Van de Beek was understood to have signed a pre-contract agreement at Real Madrid and United were left thinking it would be difficult to get their hands on the Holland international.

In January reliable Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claimed that van de Beek will be joining Zinedine Zidane's Los Blancos in the summer.

The outlet's chief sports writer, Valentijn Driessen, told Veronica Inside (via Goal.com) of the impending transfer, saying: "You can write that down [the Van de Beek to Real Madrid transfer being done]. It's all settled. It's done."

However, that news has been rebuffed by the midfielder himself who has denied he has agreed a move to anywhere.

"My feeling must be good at a club. How much do they want me?" Van de Beek told Helden.

"But I also have to fit in with the system that is being played and of course I also want to have an overview of playing minutes.

"Playing in the sun is always nice. But no, I certainly haven’t started taking Spanish lessons yet.

"I have not said yes to anyone, everything is still open. I know what I've got here, I am loved in Ajax and I love Ajax."

The 22-year-old was expected to make the move to the Spanish capital last summer, when Frenkie de Jong and Matthjis de Light left the Dutch side, but Real Madrid were unable to offload James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale and a deal never materialised.

Now though the door for United has certainly been opened by Van de Beek, in what could be viewed as a "come and get me" plea.

Last month Marca claimed United were plotting to hijack Real Madrid's move for the player.

And that report may well have some truth in it. The Spanish outlet claimed the news "comes from a report in the Netherlands" and it will have Real Madrid panicking with United looking to lure Van de Beek to England.

Van de Beek, who has scored 10 goals and provided 11 assists this season, is out of contract in June 2022 and this summer will be a perfect time to cash in on the player who has come through the ranks at the Amsterdam club.
