Cape Town - Manchester United are optimistic midfielder Ander Herrera put pen to paper on a new contract before his current deal expires at the end of the season.
Talks have been ongoing with the Spanish midfielder since last month, with caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also urging the player to not walk away when his contract ends this June.
It is understood Herrera does have lucrative offers from elsewhere, although the Red Devils have not received any indication the tenacious 29-year-old is not happy in his current surroundings.
The former Athletic Bilbao man has been a stand-out figure for United since the turn of the year and is an immensely popular figure among Old Trafford supporters.
Herrera earns around £130,000-per-week but will be aware that United are reportedly planning a £200m summer transfer splurge to bolster their squad even further.
That could be one reason for Herrera weighing up all of his options, as he will certainly do well to earn more money away from the Theatre of Dreams.
