Tony Adams: 'Mourinho the best, the man's brilliant'

Cape Town - Arsenal legend Tony Adams has hailed Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho as the best manager in the world, saying given time he will prove a success.

Speaking on Sky Sports show The Debate, Adams said that the Portuguese would prove his pedigree as the best eventually if given time.

"He's the best," Adams said. "For me, he's the best. I've seen players crying their eyes out when he left Inter. He did a magnificent job there. It's tough love right now.

"Don't underestimate that man, he's the best. Given the time, the players will all end up loving him. He's a player's coach.

"I had Andreas Pereira with me at Granada and had many, many conversations. After the last game of the season, José emailed me straight away. 'Tone, I love this player. I think he's going to be great for Man United. Let me speak to him.'"

"He just loves the players. All this media game, it's all for you guys (the media). He takes all the pressure off the players and brings it all on him. He's brilliant. The man's brilliant."

United bounced back from losing to Brighton and Tottenham with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Burnley on Sunday to quell some of the mounting tension at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has routinely clashed with the media in recent weeks, demanding more respect for his managerial record, and his superiors at the club over a lack of transfer activity.

"I won more Premierships alone than the other 19 managers together. Three for me, two for them. Respect!" a fiery Mourinho raged at reporters on exiting his post-match press conference.
