Ten-man Terriers see off West Brom

Cape Town - A 10-man Huddersfield Town claimed an important three points in their 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

West Brom were on top in the early exchanges at the John Smith's Stadium with a couple of corners.

Scott Malone was finding space down the left touchline, and on 11 minutes won a corner from which Schindler so nearly opened the scoring, only to stab the ball past the far post from Aaron Mooy's delivery.

Van La Parra fired harmlessly over Ben Foster in the Baggies goal before failing to convince the referee to award him a penalty after going down under a challenge from Kieran Giggs with 14 played.

Foster got behind a low Tom Ince effort before Hal Robson Kanu fed Jay Rodriguez through on goal, only to see his goal-bound shot blocked by Schindler.

There were a few more half-chances for both sides as Ince turned well but shot at the keeper before Jonas Lossl easily gathered a Rodriguez effort from the edge of the box.

But the home side struck with less than a minute of the half remaining through Van La Parra, with a superb 35-yard curler after a free-kick from Mooy.

Having started the second half on top, West Brom were soon pegged back as the home side looked threatening for a second goal.

But a second yellow card and a subsequent dismissal for Schindler on 57 minutes for a dangerous lunge on Ahmed Hegazi made life more difficult.

Reacting to having an extra man, Tony Pulis introduced Salomon Rondon, James McClean and Matt Phillips for Gareth McAuley, Hal Robson-Kanu and Grzegorz Krychowiak.

David Wagner, meanwhile, brought on Daniel Williams for Van La Parra and Martin Cranie for Elias Kachunga to shore up his side.

Despite enjoying some good possession midway through the second half, the visitors could not make it count before Rondon flashed a header wide from 73rd minute corner.

Rodriguez was then wayward from 25 yards on 78 minutes while Lossl did brilliantly to keep out a McClean header at full stretch before responding quickly to turn Phillips' shot behind in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of the match.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
