Sutton: Mourinho looking outdated

Cape Town - Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has joined a list of football pundits that have criticised Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho saying he “looks outdated’.

Sutton is the latest to slam Mourinho, with the United manager having recently been involved in a spat with former Crystal Palace manager, Frank De Boer.

The Dutch legend, in his punditry comments, said that the club star Marcus Rashford would be better off working with a different coach.

United are currently second in the Premier League, but 16 points behind leaders Manchester City.

They still have a chance of finishing the season with a trophy as they are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, but the Portuguese manager has come under heavy criticism following United’s elimination from Champions League in the hands of Sevilla.

"Mourinho is a changed personality from the charismatic one that first came over in 2004. He is picking silly, personal squabbles," Sutton told BBC Radio.

"Is it disastrous for Manchester United at the moment? No.

"But is this what Mourinho’s remit was, to come in and finish behind City and not push for major trophies? He is rattled.

"He looks across the city, and the style of football they and Liverpool play. This is a guy who first came on to the scene and was regarded as a genius.

"Now he is looking outdated in the way his team plays and the way other teams play."
