Surgery rules Mane out for two months

Caoe Town - Liverpool winger Sadio Mane will undergo knee surgery on Tuesday, which will keep him on the sidelines for the next two months - officially ending his season.

The Senegal international hurt his knee in a challenge with Everton left-back Leighton Baines on April 1 in the Merseyside derby at Anfield, where the hosts emerged 3-1 victors.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp admitted on Friday that Mane was unlikely to feature again this term, and reports of an imminent operation have confirmed the lengthy lay-off.

According to Press Association Sport, the 25-year-old is due to go under the knife in London before starting the long rehabilitation process.

Mane has enjoyed a productive debut campaign on Merseyside, scoring 13 goals in 27 Premier League appearances since making the switch from Southampton in the off-season.

Meanwhile Klopp reserved special praise for the Reds' two Brazilians after they helped secure a 2-1 win over Stoke City on Saturday.

Liverpool were trailing to an opening goal from Jon Walters at the Bet365 Stadium, but Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho came off the bench for a second-half turnaround.
