Cape Town - Tottenham are reportedly ready to step up their interest in Nicolo Zaniolo, and are preparing a bid of £20 million plus Toby Alderweireld for the exciting Roma midfielder.

Corriere dello Sport claim Tottenham are waiting in the background for a chance to land the talented 20-year-old, who impressed in Serie A and the Champions League last season.

Zaniolo signed a five-year contract with the Giallorossi when he arrived for a fee of £4 million plus 15% resale value from Inter only last summer.

But his first season went so well that he expects a fresh deal reflecting his new status as one of the icons of the club.

Talks broke down over the improved deal and speculation has emerged that Juventus are ready to pounce for him.

But Spurs could now be serious contenders for his signature - possibly as an alternative to their top summer target Giovani Lo Celso.
