Sokratis confirms Arsenal exit plans

Cape Town - Sokratis Papastathopoulos says he will leave Arsenal when his current deal expires in the off-season of 2021.

The Greece international arrived at the Emirates last summer from Borussia Dortmund and he has become a key figure in the first-team under Unai Emery, making 26 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.

However, the 30-year-old defender is not planning to stay in the Premier League for too long after he revealed his desire to play in the US or in Asia when his Gunners’ contract expires in 2021.

"In the summer I will be 31, I have two years of contract with Arsenal, then I would like to play in the US or in Asia," he told Kicker, as per Calciomercato.

Sokratis, who also admitted he would one day welcome a return to his homeland of Greece in the future, is next in action on Thursday when Arsenal take on Rennes in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie before a huge Premier League clash at home to Manchester United on Sunday.
