Rostov forward Sardar Azmoun feels he made the correct decision to turn
down a move to Liverpool during the January transfer window.
The Iran international had attracted interest from across Europe after impressing for Selmashi in the UEFA Champions League, where they beat Bayern Munich 3-2 in the group stages.
The Reds were short on attacking options at the start of 2017 after Sadio Mane represented Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, while other key personel were injured.
But Azmoun knew he would only be filling in for the Merseysiders before being reduced to a bench role, which made it an easy choice for him to stay at Olimp-2.
"There was talk of Liverpool having expressed an interest in me during the winter transfer window," the 22-year-old told the Qatar Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy website.
"However, I did not feel the time to move was right. I would have ended up playing a few games and then spent a great deal of time on the bench as Liverpool were only looking to fill a void for a particular part of their season."
