Sigurdsson flattered by Clement praise

Cape Town - Swansea City play-maker Gylfi Sigurdsson admits the recent praise from manager Paul Clement has lifted his aspirations of joining a bigger club.

While the talismanic Iceland international continues to thrive at the relegation threatened Swans, Clement revealed the 27-year-old is on par with the level of footballers he coached during stints with Bayern Munich, Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid.

Sigurdsson admits the praise was flattering but understands he still has a job to try and help the Welsh outfit retain their English Premier League status.

"Of course that's very flattering," he told Sky Sports. "Maybe he was just trying to give me confidence. Of course, it would be a dream to play for one of these big clubs.

"Hopefully if I continue doing well for Swansea and Iceland then in the near future, I can play in a big club. I am enjoying being one of the senior players, though," he added.

"We may be in a tough spot, but I am kind of enjoying the pressure of that. I am trying to make the most of that and help the team to get three points every week."

Swansea are currently three points above the drop zone, ahead of a relegation six-pointer against managerless Middlesbrough on April 2.

Kick off is at 14:30.
