Sidwell excited by Premier League return

Cape Town - Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steve Sidwell is relishing the challenge of playing in the Premier League again, after signing a one-year contract extension.

The 34-year-old went on loan to Brighton from Stoke City in January 2016, but made the move permanent before the start of last season, helping Albion earn promotion to the top flight.

The former Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Fulham man has now signed on for another year as Albion manager Chris Hughton looks to hold on to Sidwell's experience in the Premier League.

“It’s a nice feeling to be back in the Premier League. It’s going to be tough but it’s a challenge that we should all be looking forward to,” he said, according to The Argus.

“It was a no-brainer," added Sidwell, after he was asked about signing the new deal.

“After dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s, it was all done fairly quickly."

Hughton was delighted that Sidwell opted to stay for another season, and hopes his experience at the top level will boost Brighton's survival chances.

"Steve has been a key member of the squad over the past 18 months. He thoroughly deserves this new deal and I am delighted that he is extending his stay at the club," Hughton told the club's official website.

"He is an excellent pro and that experience will be vital for us next season."
