Cape Town - Manchester
United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger described the occasion as
"amazing" after making his first appearance of the campaign on
Wednesday.
The Germany international was introduced as a substitute late on in United's 4-1 win over West Ham in the EFL Cup at Old Trafford as they reached the semi-finals.
Schweinsteiger received a thunderous reception from the crowd as he replaced two-goal hero Anthony Martial, and the 32-year-old almost capped off the perfect night with a goal - missing the target by inches at the death.
The World Cup winner took to social media afterwards to express gratitude for the tremendous welcome he received on making his comeback for the Red Devils.
"Amazing evening with a perfect result," he said. "Thanks for the warm welcome at Old Trafford!"

Michael Carrick, who has also seen limited game-time this term, added: "He got an unbelievable reception. It was great for him. It was good to see him back."
Schweinsteiger has struggled with injuries during his time at the club, making just 18 Premier League appearances in his first season after joining from Bayern Munich in 2015.
