SA born defender gets Man United chance

Cape Town - South African born defender Keith Groeneveld is currently undergoing trials at English Premier League club Manchester United.

According to The Metro, the 16-year-old started his training at United’s famous Carrington training ground on Monday, April 25 and is set to have a five day trial with the 20-times English Premier League champions.

The defender was born in Kimberley but has been out of the country for over 10 years having made Europe his home since he was five-years-old.

It has been confirmed that the defender has previously been on trial at the club while he was playing for Royal Antwerp.

Groeneveld is currently the under-17 captain of Belgian outfit KV Mechelen and hopes to follow in the footsteps of Adnan Januzaj, who also got snapped up by United in 2011 from Anderlecht in Belgium.
