Rummenigge tight-lipped over Bayern's Sane pursuit

Cape Town - Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has refused to comment on speculation linking his club with Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.

The German giants had spent most of the summer chasing Sane, but City were holding out for a large fee for the 23-year-old and no deal materialised.

Whether Bayern would have pushed for a move before the end of the transfer window remains to be seen because Sane suffered an Achilles tendon injury in the Community Shield which all but ended his season.

That has not stopped reports Bayern will make another move - either in January or next summer - for Sane but Rummenigge, the executive board chairman, has moved to shut down that speculation, saying that he did not want to talk about another club's player.

"To be honest I have no eye on him at all because I don't speak about players of other clubs in public," he said.

"The FIFA rules don't allow that anyway and I will always stick to that."

Bayern still have a need for wide players following the departures of veteran wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben in the off-season, and a fully fit Sane would be a useful addition but Rummenigge says it is not something they are thinking about right now.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
