Richarlison signs Everton contract extension

Cape Town - Everton have received a boost with the news that Brazilian international striker Richarlison has signed a new five-year deal at the club.

Richarlison joined from Watford in July 2018, signing on in a deal that could rise in value to £50 million, heading to Merseyside after just one season at Vicarage Road.

The transfer allowed him to reunite with Marco Silva and while his team have been inconsistent, the 22-year-old has shone, netting his 20th Everton goal in 50 starts against Leicester on Sunday.

Silva’s inability to settle on a formation has seen the former Fluminese man play on both the right and left wings, as well as through the middle as a central striker.

Since joining Everton, Richarlison has earned 19 caps for Brazil, making his first appearance just two months after arriving at Goodison Park

His exploits even saw him score a penalty in this year’s Copa America final as the Selecao ran out 3-1 winners over Peru at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracana Stadium.

Richarlison is next in action on Wednesday when his side face Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the campaign.

Despite his team being sat at 17th in the table, Richarlison is clearly happy where he is, with Tuesday’s announcement tying him down until the summer of 2024.

The player is happy to stick around at the club, saying he owes it to the Toffees to try and reach his potential at Goodison.

"I intend to be here a long time," Richarlison told evertontv. "This was the club which gave me the opportunity to show my football.

“It was here I managed to get a place in the Brazil national team and it was here I have scored lots of goals in the Premier League."

He added on Silva that his development under the 42-year-old was "clear for everyone to see" and that the coach is an "excellent person".
