Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy’s move to Arsenal seems to be getting closer as he will undergo a medical on Sunday, according to ESPN FC.
It is understood that Arsenal triggered Vardy’s release clause on Friday and want to try and sign him as soon as possible. With Vardy set to depart for France on Monday in order to represent England at Euro 2016, the Gunners wanted the 29-year-old to have a medical on Sunday.
Vardy’s contract has a release clause that will let him join a Champions League team for £22 million and Arsenal seem intent on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium next season.
In addition to activating his release clause, Arsenal are reportedly prepared to offer Vardy lucrative personal terms in order to convince him to leave the reigning Premier League champions.
While Leicester City will definitely try and do everything in their power to keep Vardy at the King Power Stadium, they cannot stop Arsenal from talking to the striker as they have triggered his release clause.
Should Arsenal secure the services of Vardy, it will be their second signing of the summer after they agreed to a £30 million deal for VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Vardy enjoyed a lot of success in the recently concluded season as he scored 24 goals and notched up eight assists in all competitions.
