Red Devils prepare January swoop for Eriksen

Cape Town - Manchester United are reportedly preparing to make a fresh offer for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window.

The Dane's future has been up in the air all summer after he said he was looking for a fresh challenge as he entered the final year of his contract, but a move to a top European club has not materialised.

Real Madrid were the main side linked with a move for Eriksen but there was no concrete interest from the La Liga side and the 27-year-old remains in north London for the time being.

United have also been linked with Eriksen over the summer with a report in The Sun recently claiming they made a £70 million bid for the Spurs midfielder.

There have been rumours that Spurs will offer Eriksen a new five-year deal to remain in north London worth €7.5 million a year but he seems set to leave the club in the near future.

Metro claims that the Red Devils will 'reignite their interest' when the transfer window reopens for business in January with United believing 'they stand a better chance' of securing his signature.

Eriksen will be free to discuss pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs on January 1 when his contract enters the final six months.

But United also 'sense an opportunity' and are confident of agreeing on a deal with their Premier League rivals.

The Metro adds that Tottenham are 'increasingly resigned to losing him and would rather sell in January than lose the Dane for free the following summer.'
