Cape Town - Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon insists the team will take many positives from their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.
The Eagles were all square with the Reds until the halftime break and looked set for at least a point, but a 73rd-minute winner from Sadio Mane was enough for the Reds to claim three points.
Despite the defeat at home, Puncheon believes Palace were much better than in their Premier League opener which they lost 3-0 to Huddersfield.
“We gave a better performance and were much more compact and were in the game right up until they scored, it’s disappointing we couldn’t get something out of the game but we now take the positives into next week’s matches," Puncheon told the club's official website.
“Our game plan was to make it difficult for them, be compact as a side and the contest opened up more in the second half which saw them having more chances but Wayne (Hennessey) kept us in the game but from our point of view we did well across the whole match.”
Palace next host Swansea City at Selhurst Park on Saturday with Frank de Boer aiming to grab the first points of their English Premiership campaign.
Kick off is at 16:00.
