Cape Town - West Brom manager Tony Pulis has hailed midfielder Darren Fletcher for his performance in the 1-0 win over his former club Manchester United on Sunday.
Salomon Rondon struck the crucial goal after 66 minutes at the Hawthorns, but Pulis reserved special praise for the 32-year-old Scot, who made well over 300 appearances for United before joining the Baggies last season.
"Fletch is a great player to have," Pulis said of his captain. "He's old school. There aren't many players like him.
"He has that drive, that fire in his belly that has been dampened down in the recent generations of players. But since he came to this club he has been a fantastic player for us on and off the pitch."
Pulis then moved on to Rondon, whose match-winning strike was his seventh goal in 25 appearances since moving to England from Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.
"We've looked better of late - we have Saido [Berahino] and Salomon together. Since they've played together we've gelled a lot more. Salomon never stops - he's a fantastic lad and his goal was a great finish."
The Baggies have now won three of their last four games to move up to a healthy and relatively safe position of 11th in the Premier League standings ahead of next weekend's clash with Arsenal.
