Potters' Butland out with broken finger

Cape Town - Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland has been forced to withdraw from the England squad with a broken finger he sustained in training on Thursday.

The 24-year-old only returned to action in April from a fractured ankle that had kept him on the sidelines for 13 months - the injury also coming while on international duty.

Butland started all 11 games in the Premier League for Mark Hughes' side this term, keeping two clean sheets, but injury has curbed his progress once more.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate was reportedly planning to start him in goal ahead of Joe Hart against Germany on Friday, before the incident occurred towards the end of Thursday's training session.

Everton glove-man Jordan Pickford is now expected to make his senior debut at Wembley, with the Football Association announcing that no replacement will be called up for Butland.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
