Pochettino to tie down more players

Cape Town - Mauricio Pochettino says more Tottenham players will follow Eric Dier in committing themselves to the Premier League club.

Dier signed a new deal with Spurs, keeping him in north London until 2021, just days after Christian Eriksen ended speculation over his future by signing new terms.

A number of key men are expected to follow suit, with Kyle Walker, Erik Lamela and Jan Vertonghen all reportedly in talks following the club's qualification to the UEFA Champions League.

Pochettino is naturally delighted with the progress of his young side and wants to keep the squad together for a number of years.

"It is always important to keep your best players and English talent. That is very important for the club," he told Sky Sports.

Responding to Dier's new deal, he added: "It is fantastic news. In the next few days maybe there will be another player with the same news as Eric and Christian. It's important for the club, not just me."

And ahead of Spurs' Champions League clash wit Monaco at Wembley on Wednesday, following Harry Kane's opening goal of the season in the 4-0 thrashing of Stoke, the Argentine added: "It's important that our main striker has started scoring again.

"For him it was important because it's important for all strikers to feel the net. We have a lot of important games to play."
