Pochettino: Eriksen will sign new contract

Cape Town - Mauricio Pochettino is confident that Christian Eriksen, who will be making his 100 Premier League appearance on Saturday, will sign a new deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old Danish international, who joined Spurs from Ajax in 2013, has been one of the club's most influential players in recent seasons.

Tabloid reports this week suggested that Eriksen is holding out for a massive pay rise of £150,000 a week - something he has since denied.

Talks over a deal began in March, but despite the player having yet to sign, Pochettino says the player is going nowhere.

He explained: "The players are sometimes involved in different things but they are very professional.

"Christian, we are happy with him, he’s very happy here and we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.

"Am I confident he’ll stay? He has two years more in his contract, he’s happy here. I think it’s just a question of time for him to agree a new contract."

Pochettino has, meanwhile, confirmed that Nabil Bentaleb is not in his plans this season, but Clinton Njie is amid talks of a swap move involving Marseille winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.

The Spurs boss added: "They are still our players. I was clear about Bentaleb, he’s not in my plans, but Clinton is in my squad and he’s in my plans."
