Pienaar to feature against German giants?

Cape Town - With news confirmed that Steven Pienaar has started training with Sunderland under former boss David Moyes, it appears the player could be involved in the club's pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund on Friday, August 5.

The 34-year-old spent a large portion of his career in England playing under Moyes at Everton, and the Scotsman's appointment at Sunderland means there is a very real possibility that the attacking midfielder could win a deal with the Black Cats.

Moyes rates 'Schillo' highly, having signed him on three different occasions at Everton - once on a permanent deal and twice on loan.

The former Manchester United boss has also made no secret of the fact he wants to bring in players with experience of playing in the Premier League - this is something the player can offer as he has played at the highest level in England for close to 10 years.

It appeared at one stage that the former Bafana Bafana international's career in the English top flight could be coming to an end - he struggled with injuries and only made 13 league appearances in the last couple of seasons.

Nonetheless, with it appearing more than likely that Moyes wants to add Pienaar to Sunderland's ranks for 2016/17, there seems to be a good chance 'Schillo' could feature against Dortmund.

Ironically, the 61-cap former Bafana star spent two years with the German giants earlier in his career. Last season's Bundesliga runners-up are a top side, with the likes of Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa, Andre Schurrle and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their ranks.

If Pienaar was to feature, it would suggests he will be one step closer to winning a deal with the Black Cats. This may come as disappointing news to fans of South African giants Orlando Pirates, who were hopeful he would sign on the dotted line for their club in recent weeks.
