Cape Town - Newly appointed West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini and his wife Carola Pucci were robbed at gunpoint in Santiago, Chile.
According to Sky News website, the 64-year-old and his wife were accompanied by friends to a nearby restaurant in Vitacura, before their vehicle was intercepted by the robbers.
The former Manchester City boss and his friends were unharmed as the muggers escaped with their belongings.
As the suspects fled the scene, Vitacura's police captain Gonzalo Munoz said that officers nearby were quick to catch up to the robbers.
However, shots were fired at the police officers and nails were thrown in the road as they attempted their getaway.
The robbers getaway car was a Porsche Cayenne with fake number plates and was located by the police department hours later.
West Ham announced the former Real Madrid boss as their new mentor last month, replacing David Moyes at the helm of the Premier League club.
