Pardew: Baggies showed promising signs

Cape Town - West Bromwich Albion manager Alan Pardew believes his new team showed positive intent against Crystal Palace at the weekend despite playing out a goalless draw.

The Premier League clash with the Eagles at the Hawthorns was Pardew's first game in charge of the Baggies, and he was eager to make an immediate impact by starting with three strikers, Salomon Rondon, Jay Rodriguez and Hal Robson-Kanu.

The hosts were unable to find the back of the Palace net and had to settle for a draw in the end, but Pardew was pleased by what he saw from West Brom.

"I wanted to send a message not just to the fans here but to the players: 'Okay, we can play with three strikers and we can be positive and go for teams," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.

"Sometimes when you play with three strikers it doesn’t always work, but if we’d got a goal in the first 20 minutes, we might’ve kicked on from there.

"But we didn’t. So we’ll reflect on that. We showed signs with a lot of big players missing that were really encouraging," he added.

The Baggies travel to Liberty Stadium for a Premier League clash against Swansea City on Saturday, December 9.
