Cape Town - German international Mesut Ozil has become Arsenal's highest earner after signing a new 3-and-a-half year deal at the club that will see him earn £350 000 a week, before tax.
The 29-year old becomes the highest-paid player in the London club's history after signing a new deal early on Wednesday morning. The midfielder is believed to have been impressed by the capture of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang which played a role in his decision to remain in London.
The contract extension will see Ozil potentially remain at the Emirates for eight years after joining from Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2013.
It brings an end to the protracted contractual stand-off between Ozil and the club with his contract having entered its final six months.
Arsenal also announced the signing of Aubameyang for a record fee, for a reported £56 million from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, both clubs confirmed on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Gabon striker, who has scored 141 goals for Dortmund since joining in 2013, signed a long-term contract with the storied London club.
