Ozil credits Zidane for inspiration

Cape Town - Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil says that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was a major inspiration to him while he was growing up.

Ozil, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid for a club record £42m back in 2013, has scored seven goals and provided 19 assists for the Gunners this season.

Speaking to the Sun, the German international was full of praise for former Juventus and Real Madrid midfield maestro.

"Zidane was a magnificent player. I loved the way he played," Ozil said.

"I watched many of his matches when I was young and tried to adapt his cleverness and vision to my game.

"He was able to read the game and direct play without any unnecessary tricks and showboating. That's what makes him so special."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
