Tottenham have reportedly hamstrung manager Jose Mourinho's transfer plans by significantly reducing his budget.

Spurs have faced a lot of criticism in recent days after announcing that they will furlough 550 members of their non-playing staff due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Tottenham are among four Premier League clubs to announce a furlough of non-playing staff - which involves a reduction in their salaries to 80% - whilst their players' lucrative deals remain intact.

And now the Daily Mail claims Spurs are 'planning a range of cutbacks' and will scale 'back the club's transfer fund'.

Mourinho and chairman Daniel Levy have already discussed transfer plans for the next window with 'central defence, full-back and centre-forward among the positions the club want to strengthen'.

However, the report in the Daily Mail continues by saying that 'Mourinho's hopes of strengthening are now in grave danger as club cut their cloth accordingly'.

This also indicates that the London side may have to cash-in on letting go of star striker Harry Kane.

The England captain is one of the most sought-after forwards in world football and his value is currently over £130 million.

Rio Ferdinand recently urged United to sign Kane, he said on Instagram: "Harry has always been coy and held back but he's dropped a couple of bombs. He’s been waiting for the dream at Spurs to materialise, but it hasn't happened. He's frustrated.

"Do you think Harry would be happy, fulfilled and satisfied if he scores goals, break records but with no trophies at the end of his career? No. He will be upset and devastated.

"I think that statement means Harry is off, he wants to win trophies and that will alert clubs.

"I know Man United will be in for him because that type of player is perfect for them. I'm sure Juventus will be in and will Real Madrid come in?

"He will go for massive dough, at least £130 million in today's market."
