Mustafi praises Gunners mentality

Cape Town - Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi has hailed the squad's character ahead of their Champions League opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Mustafi, who joined the Gunners late in the transfer window for a reported £35m from Valencia, impressed on his debut for the Premier League side on Saturday.

The Germany international produced an assured defensive display alongside captain Laurent Koscielny as they pulled off a last-gasp 2-1 victory against Southampton.

Mustafi has now praised the concentration and mental strength of Arsene Wenger's men saying the stoppage-time penalty that won the game against the Saints, is a sign of a winning team that never gives up.

"If you don't concentrate for 90 minutes, you lose points. We concentrated until the end, and that's what gave us the winner," he told the club's website.

"I'm happy for the three points first of all, but I'm happy for how the supporters received me here and how the team made me feel part of it."

After the confidence boosting win, the 24-year-old says it's important to take that same work-ethic and tactical discipline in their Group A opener in Paris.

"It's an important competition, it's not going to be an easy game in Paris," he said in comments about the group consisting of Basel, PSG and Ludogorets Razgrad.

"The most important thing in the Champions League is to concentrate on yourself because all the teams in it are big teams with big players so the most important thing is to try and play our game and try to get the three points."
