Cape Town - Sunderland manager David Moyes is confident that star defender Lamine Kone will commit his future to the club sooner rather than later.
The Ivorian international joined the Black Cats from FC Lorient in the January transfer window, but was linked extensively with a move to Everton, Moyes' former club, in the off-season.
The Wearside club was able to retain the services of the 27-year-old for the time being and Moyes is hopeful that Kone will put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the Stadium of Light for the foreseeable future.
"I hope he will have signed a new contract shortly," Moyes told the Telegraph.
"I've had nothing but smiles from him. I know what happens once the window shuts, it changes everything.
"There have been plenty of discussions and there are some more already pencilled in for next week some time.
"He's still got four years left on his current contract so it's not as if we are scraping around because we're short of time."
